Tender, flaky, and light with a hint of sweetness, these strawberry scones don’t last long in my house. My mom used to make them as afterschool snacks, and I’ve followed the tradition with my own family. I mean let’s face it; kids never like anything you make, so if you can get them to scarf something down, it’s a win in my book. I make this delicious strawberry scones recipe as an afterschool snack, but you can make it for a variety of different reasons. Here are just a few reasons to make them:

Strawberry Scones Key Ingredients
What I like about this recipe is that once you buy the ingredients, you won’t need to go back to the store for more the next time you want to make scones. Make sure you have these main ingredients:
Strawberries. For the best flavor, you will want to have fresh strawberries from the produce section. The strawberries should be hulled and chopped into small pieces. Flour. You can’t make the flaky light scone without flour, I’m using all-purpose flour here. Butter. This is a key ingredient in the recipe and what makes the dough flaky. Make sure that the butter is cold, just like in pie crust as you will use a pastry cutter or a food processor to combine it with the flour. Baking powder. Don’t confuse this with baking soda as it does work different. This is our leavener that will give the scones a nice lift. Buttermilk. Before you begin this recipe, make sure your buttermilk is at room temperature. Sugar. To sweeten the scones, you will need regular granulated sugar.

Easy Scone Glaze Recipe
Here’s what you’ll need to make a simple vanilla glaze for your scones:
Powdered sugar: Buy this at the store, do not try and make this at home as you’ll end up with crunchy bits of sugar even if you use a high powered blender. Vanilla: For recipes like this, use the best pure vanilla extract that you can afford. The real stuff, obviously. Milk: Or heavy cream, to turn the sugar into thick luxurious a glaze.
