About this Indian Tomato Salad recipe

This easy peasy Tomato and Onion Salad are a refreshing, crunchy, and delicious Indian condiment. They are just like fresh tomato salsa ( pico de gallo ) that is served with Mexican meals. You can also say, it’s like Kachumber salad minus the cucumber. Or call it an Indian version of Pico de Gallo… The recipe uses tomato, red onion, seasoning, a citrus element, and finally some herbs. Simple faff-free ingredients to make this Easy no-cook salad. The only prep involved is to dice the onions, tomatoes, and herbs. Finally, toss the ingredients together in a mixing bowl and serve! If you like a little heat in your salad, add 1 or 2 green chilli or ½ a teaspoon of chilli powder. The salad as such is chunky in nature and has very few natural liquids. Store in the refrigerator covered for up to 5 days. This tomato onion salad will keep fresh as long as the fresh-cut tomatoes will keep.

Store fresh Tomato Red Onion Salad

This homemade salad is made with fresh ingredients, so it will keep well as long as cut fresh tomatoes will last. It is best enjoyed after making it. Tomato - Make this Indian Salad with any kind of tomato. I like to use salad tomatoes, vine tomatoes, and occasionally cherry tomatoes. Onion - Red Onion gives the snap to the salad, it needs. Use any variety of onions - Red, Yellow or Brown. Salt - Season to taste Citrus - Use either fresh lemon or lime juice. Herbs - Coriander leaves or/and Mint leaves Green Chilli - I like to add either diced Bird’s eye chilli for a little heat. {It’s optional } If you enjoy a bit of heat, add ¼ a teaspoon of chilli powder or 1 green chilli, finely diced. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Can I freeze the Tomato Onion Salad?

No, I will not recommend freezing the salad, as it will turn soggy after defrosting them.

How to serve Indian Tomato and Onion Salad?

One way to serve Indian Tomato and Onion Salad is to use it as a condiment to accompany poppadoms or alongside dishes such as Dal Makhani , Chickpea Spinach Curry, Red Lentil Curry, Tarka Dal, Aubergine Curry, and others. Additionally, the salad can be a delicious addition to burrito bowls, salad jars, and Buddha bowls.
