Recently, my family had the best summer day. We went for a long hike, and then to the beach for swimming. We finished it up with a grilled dinner on the patio. We made hamburgers made with my hamburger seasoning, tomato cucumber salad, and then ice cream sundaes. But of course we included grilled corn. It is one f our favorites in the summer. Cooking corn on the grill is easy to perfect by following a few simple steps.
How To Grill Corn
This recipe could not be more simple. It’s so simple that we do it several times a week in summer.
Leave the Husks On
Lots of grilled corn recipes suggest taking off the husk. Some call for wrapping it in aluminum foil before placing it on the grill. But for best results, grill the corn in the husks. The steam that is created from cooking the corn on the grill, is contained in the husk and helps it cook perfectly.
Trim the Silk
While we want to leave the husks on, trimming the silk at the top is a great idea. It can keep it from catching on fire during grilling.
No Need to Pre Soak Corn
There is no need to presoak it. Using fresh corn is what will ensure that it is moist and plump. It can actually go right from the stalk to the grill. When Nathan and I first started making corn on the grill, we always soaked it in it’s husks first. Then, one day, it was right before dinner, we hadn’t soaked the corn, and we really wanted it with our burgers. So we just threw the corn on the grill. It turned out great! Turns out we were wasting our time all those years presoaking our corn.
Getting Grill Marks
This method of grilling corn in the husk, will not leave you with grill marks on your corn. But that is a great look for some recipes. If you would like that, remove the corn from the grill 5 minutes early. Then shuck the corn. Place it back on the hot grill to get grill marks, turning occasionally.
What to Season Grilled Corn With
We typically just season our grilled corn with salt and butter, but here are a few other options:
Garlic Powder + Parmesan Cheese + ButterMayonnaise + Chili Powder + Cojita CheeseSriracha + CilantroHoney + Lime Juice + SaltCumin + Paprika + Chili Powder + Salt + ButterLemon Pepper SeasoningCinnamon + Sugar + Butter
Experiment and see what flavor combinations you love!
Can You Reheat Grilled Corn?
To reheat the corn, wrap each piece in foil. Make sure that it is wrapped tightly so that the steam cannot escape. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 5 to 7 minutes. Otherwise, left over grilled corn is great in some of the recipes listed above the recipe below.
