Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Ingredients Needed to make seasoned pretzels

Here’s what you need to make this Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

Pretzels. I used Butter Snaps as I love the checkboard pattern, but you can use your favorite.Honey. Just a couple of tablespoons to sweeten the pretzels.Mustard. We’re using a combination of Dijon mustard and dried mustard powder, if you love mustard flavor then you’re going to love this snack. You can substitute Dijon mustard with yellow mustard.Butter. The butter will make your pretzels super crunchy. Especially if you’re using stale pretzels, butter will fix everything. It’s also used for flavor.Onion Powder. Optional, but I find that onion powder gives a lovely aroma and it balances the flavor of mustard with honey, and turns this snack into a savory one. Garlic powder can also be used.

How To Make Honey Mustard Pretzels

Preheat. Depending on what method you’re using, preheat your oven or pellet smoker to 250°F/120°C degrees.Melt The Butter. Melt the butter in the microwave on high for 1 minute.Add Seasonings. Add the butter to a large bowl, followed by the seasonings. Whisk until well combined.Add Pretzels. Now it’s time to add the pretzels to the butter mixture, and gently fold them in until they’re well coated.Spread on a Baking Sheet. Evenly spread the pretzel mixture in a single layer on a large baking sheet, and place in the oven or smoker. Bake or smoke for 30-40 minutes stirring every 10 minutes.Serve. I like to serve the pretzels while still a little warm, but they’re equally as good when they’re cooled to room temperature.

Smoked Pretzels

If you own a smoker, then you know how fun it can be to make such simple recipes using the smoker. I went as far as making desserts, smoked mac and cheese, and whatnot! And it just makes everything taste amazing. I often make these seasoned pretzels in my pellet smoker, and the smoke adds a special flavor to them. Don’t worry, we will only smoke the pretzels for 30 minutes so you won’t be using too much fuel here. If you decide to use your smoker, here are my notes:

Choose Fruit Pellets. If you’re thinking what wood pellets are best for this recipe, I suggest that you go for fruit wood pellets as they will give a lighter smoke flavor compared to something like hickory. For a Stronger Smoked Flavor, you can increase the smoking time to one hour and perhaps use hickory pellets. But only do this if you truly love a strong smoking flavor.

Variations

To make ranch parmesan pretzels, season the pretzels with a packet or 2 tablespoons of homemade ranch seasoning, and fourth a cup of grated parmesan cheese. For spicy pretzels, use red pepper flakes or cajun seasoning mixed with old bay seasoning. Or do a fun Mexican themed snack and season the pretzels with homemade fajita seasoning, or taco seasoning. Serve along with fresh guacamole, and lime crema for dipping. Save this recipe for the next time you need an easy quick snack. Pin it for more people to enjoy too! © Little Sunny Kitchen
