Everyone loves french toast, whether it’s served for breakfast or dessert. I personally love all variations of french toast, plain, with chocolate, fruit or marshmallows. All kinds of french toast! For the past few years, we’ve been making this on BBQs as we put this on the grill or barbecue and wait for the magic to happen. It has also been our go-to camping breakfast, as it’s so easy to make and the result is just divine! I have the perfect traditional pan-fried French Toast Recipe too!
Camping Toast
We have been using grill foil packets ever since I was a child. It’s a great way to cook food, especially when you want that lovely smokey flavour. We mainly just made potato foil packets and corn on the cob, but recently started making this french toast and now it’s our favourite thing to make.
How to Make French Toast Foil Packet
This very similar to what you would do when making french toast, but it involves foil!
With the foil, create a packet by folding the foil to create walls to resemble a deep baking dish.Arrange the toast in the foil packet (I usually use stale bread).Whisk eggs with milk, a little bit of sugar, vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon.
Pour the egg and milk mixture over the toast to coat. You might have a little bit more liquid that needed, but just pour it all in.
Top with diced strawberries, walnuts, and more ground cinnamon! Seal the foil packet and cook until it’s well cooked through and the toast is slightly crispy.The same method applies whether you chose to cook this in the oven, over a grill or a campfire.
When it’s ready, carefully open the foil packet as hot steam will come out. Squeeze some fresh lemon juice, garnish with fresh mint leaves and it’s ready to be served.
Make sure that you don’t overcook the french toast as it might end up too dry and tough. Keep checking on it every once and then.
