Chicken wings are such a delicious treat, but you don’t have to wait to eat them at a restaurant. You also don’t have to deal with the hassle of deep frying. With this baked chicken wings recipe, you will get amazing and crisp chicken wings right out of your oven at home.

Lemon Pepper Seasoning

Rather than use wing sauce in this recipe, we are using a dry rub of lemon pepper seasoning. Lemon pepper seasoning is a seasoning blend commonly found at grocery stores here in the United States. Made from dehydrated lemon peel and black pepper (and sometimes onion powder and garlic powder), it adds just the right amount of both lemon and pepper flavor that complement each other so well! We use this seasoning blend to create a variation of my oven baked chicken wings to season the chicken and create a lemon pepper butter sauce. It is also used in my Lemon Pepper Chicken recipe.

How to Serve Lemon Pepper Wings

After they come out of the oven they get a delicious brush of melted butter with more seasoning that really brings this recipe home. These wings are delicious and can be enjoyed as is. If you love to dip your wings in sauce, these are delicious with my homemade ranch dressing. You also might love them with blue cheese dressing.

Prepare the chicken wings. Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel. It is very important to remove as much moisture as you can so the wings will be crispy. Season the chicken. Put the wings in a gallon-sized ziplock bag with lemon pepper seasoning, baking powder, and salt. Toss to combine, making sure all of the chicken is coated with the seasonings. Bake the wings. Place the chicken on a wire rack set in a rimmed baking sheet lined with foil. Bake the chicken for 20 minutes, and flip them over at the 10-minute mark. Broil the wings. If you want your wings a bit more crispy, put them under the broiler for six minutes, watching closely so they do not burn. Make the lemon pepper butter sauce. Melt together the butter and lemon pepper seasoning. After removing the wings from the oven, brush them with the sauce and enjoy!

In this crispy baked chicken wings recipe, we are using both baking powder and salt so that we can double down on pulling out moisture. It is critical that you use baking powder and not baking soda in this recipe. Double-check your label and check the freshness of your baking powder by mixing a little bit with water. It should bubble up right away; if it doesn’t, it is time to toss it and get a new container. Baking the chicken wings on a wire rack so that air can circulate helps them get the crispy skin that makes them so yummy. Be sure to turn them halfway through their baking time.

Air Fryer Chicken Wings

This great recipe can also be made in the air fryer! Just skip the baking powder and use the salt and lemon pepper seasoning in place of the chicken rub.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Store any leftover lemon pepper wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat them in the oven or air fryer until heated through. Always use your best discretion with leftovers.
