Should you make Jello Shots for Christmas? I say go for it! These blue Jello shots topped with a snowy mound of whipped cream and coconut remind me of the Jack Frost character from the old ’70s claymation animated holiday movie. That makes them perfectly on-theme for Christmas or whenever you want to serve your friends a tasty blue-Hawaiian-style alcohol treat. These also give Princess Elsa vibes! Serve these shots with a side of my adorable snowman cupcakes.

Jack Frost Jello Shots Recipe Highlights

Blue Christmas Jello Shots Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make these fun and festive Jack Frost shots: Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

Blue Jell-O Powder: Berry Blue jello is the perfect color for these icy Jack Frost shots, but any other blue instant gelatine will work too. Look for blue raspberry if you’re shopping for a different brand. Coconut Rum: Malibu Rum is my favorite, but you could also make these with Bacardi Coconut or Parrot Bay Rum. Blue Curacao: This orange-flavored liqueur makes these shots even more bright blue! Pineapple Juice: Pineapple, rum, and coconut are a classic combination. These shots taste just like a blue Hawaiian! It’s important that you use canned coconut juice and not freshly squeezed. Fresh pineapple has an enzyme in it that will keep the Jell-O from setting. Whipped Cream and Coconut: These garnishes or toppings are optional, but delicious! I like to toast the shredded coconut for a few minutes in a dry pan to bring out the yummy flavor.

How To Make Jack Frost Blue Jello Shots

Recipe Tips

Adjust the amount of alcohol. To make these less boozy, reduce the amount of rum and blue curacao by half, and replace them with additional juice or water. Other ways to decorate: Instead of the whipped cream and coconut, try adding a sugar rim, or adding a few mini marshmallows on top. You can also decorate these shots with blue sprinkles.

Jello Shot Storing Tips

You can store these Christmas Jello shots (without the whipped cream topping) in the fridge for up to 3 days. I like to use the souffle cups with lids so that each shot can be easily covered and contained. You can very easily make these drinks ahead of time. Keep them covered with the lids and in the fridge until you’re ready to serve them.

Non-Alcoholic Jello Shots

Want to make a batch of Jello shots that everyone, including the young ones, can enjoy? Make the recipe as described, but substitute the alcohol with additional water, pineapple juice, or coconut water. If you do plan to make a batch with alcohol and a batch without, be sure to keep them separated and well-labeled so that the right people get the right ones!

What to Serve with Christmas Jello Shots

Jack Frost Jello shots are party food! Or maybe they’re drinks? I’m not entirely sure what to call them. But I do know that they are definitely meant to be enjoyed with friends, so you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of snacks and appetizers to go with them. I have tons of amazing holiday appetizers and Christmas desserts that you can make this season, and here are a few of my favorites:

Christmas Pinwheel Cookies Sugar Cookie Fudge Crockpot Grape Jelly Meatballs Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts Peppermint Hot Chocolate Fudge Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread Classic Chex Mix Rum Balls

Need an occasion to plan for? Invite your favorite people over for a holiday cookie exchange, a white elephant gift party, an ugly sweater party, or a Christmas game night.

Where do you find cups for jello shots?

The best cups to use are the small 2-ounce portion cups with lids, like the ones sauces are in when you order take-out. I can usually find these at Target and Walmart, or you can order a pack online.

How much alcohol is in this recipe?

Keep in mind that Malibu rum and blue curacao each have a lower alcohol content than regular rum or other types of hard liquor. Each shot in this recipe will contain approximately one-half ounce of total liquor, which is less than what would be in a typical cocktail. As always, please consume alcohol responsibly!

How far ahead of time can I make Jello Shots?

I like to make these a day ahead of time, but you can technically make them up to 3 days ahead of time if you need to. Leave the whipped cream garnish for just before serving.

I thought that I couldn’t make jello with pineapple juice?

It’s true that you can’t make jello with fresh pineapple pieces or fresh pineapple juice. Pineapple contains enzymes that will keep the Jello from setting. The good news is that canned pineapple and canned juice have been pasteurized, and that process destroys those enzymes, so the Jello shots will set up just fine!
