Many supermarkets, including Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Asda, and Sainsbury’s, sell pre-marinated potato slices that you can deep fry, bake or air fry. However, making them at home is much simpler and yields fresher and better-tasting results! To make these potato slices, you’ll need only 10 minutes of hands-on time. Plus, they can be made in advance, reheated, and served without losing their crispy texture, whether hot or cold. Ingredients
You will need only a few easily available ingredients from your kitchen pantry, a knife, and an air fryer to make this recipe in just 30 minutes. Potatoes - The best varieties of potatoes for crispy air fryer potato slices are Russet or Yukon Gold. Spices - To add flavour to the potatoes, I like to use chilli powder, salt, ground black pepper, and garlic powder. You can substitute chilli powder with mild paprika or smoked paprika if you prefer. Rice flour - This is my secret ingredient that adds an extra crispy texture to the potato slices. Adding 1.5 teaspoon of rice flour and coating the potato slices well with the spices makes a huge difference in the texture. Even when the potato slices are cold, they will still remain crispy, similar to Onion Bhaji. Although it is possible to make potato slices without rice flour, I highly recommend using it for the added crispiness. Oil - Use any neutral-flavoured oil such as sunflower oil or olive oil for this recipe.
Slice the potatoes for Crispy Potato slices
To make crispy potatoes, first wash, scrub, and dry the potatoes thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, slice the potatoes to a thickness of ⅛ inch (0.3 cm) with the skin on, if you are confident in your knife skills. Alternatively, you can use a mandolin slicer to slice the potatoes to the same thickness of ⅛ inch (0.3 cm).
How to make Crispy Potato slices in air fryer?
Soak - To make crispy potato slices, begin by soaking the sliced potatoes in cold water for 15-30 minutes. Although this step is optional, it is highly recommended for achieving the crispiest potato slices possible. Dry - After soaking, dry the potato slices with a paper towel or kitchen towel. Toss with spices - In a mixing bowl, combine the potato slices with oil, salt, pepper, chili powder or paprika, garlic powder, and 1.5 teaspoon rice flour. Toss the ingredients together until the potato slices are well coated with spices. Add potato to the air fryer - Preheat your air fryer to 200°C for 3 minutes. Arrange the potato slices in the air fryer, making sure not to overlap them too much. Air fry - Air fry the potato slices for 15-18 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. Serve - Once the potato slices are crispy and golden, transfer them to a serving dish. Repeat the process with the remaining potato slices. Garnish and serve with your favourite dip.
