Pre-Baking Flour
A key step to this recipe is to pre-bake the flour. All purpose flour has the small chance of containing E. coli. There have been outbreaks in the past, and for this reason, I recommend spreading the flour on a baking sheet and baking for 5 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Variations and Substitutions
Swap out the crust. If making a cookie dough crust feels daunting, you could use a pre-bought graham cracker crust. You could also use my fool proof pie crust recipe and fully bake it before adding the ice cream mixture. You will need to weigh it down as we do here. Make it chocolatey. You could add 1/2 a cup of fudge sauce to the cool whip and sweetened condensed milk to make a chocolate ice cream base. Top it with more goodness. For serving, consider making whipped cream and fudge sauce to go on top of this delicious pie.
