Apple season is finally here and I AM SO EXCITED! If you live close to an apple orchard, then you’re in for a treat! Get fresh apples, and make this gorgeous dessert ASAP. It will make your whole house smell like heaven, and it will be devoured in just 5 minutes (this is what happened in our house!). Apple slices are coated in warm spices like cinnamon and cloves, a little bit of honey for sweetness, and a splash of whiskey for a beautiful aroma! These tender and healthy baked apple slices are perfect for fall. Serve them with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or vanilla custard and your tummy will be very happy. The apple slices are fork-tender, but not mushy (they shouldn’t fall apart), and if you have a lot of apples this season then I recommend that you try my homemade apple butter; it’s to die for!

How to Make Baked Apple Slices

Before you make these sliced baked apples, you need to decide on whether you prefer to peel the apples or leave the peel on. I personally like to leave the peel on purely for the aesthetics, but for a smoother texture, you can peel the apples.

The Ingredients

Apples – choose organic if possible. I used pink lady apples here, but I also like Honeycrisp apples as they’re sweet and great to bake with, and you can mix them with tart granny smith apples for an interesting combination. Honey or maple syrup for sweetness, and a pinch of salt.Spices – I used ground cinnamon and cloves, but you can also add ground ginger, allspice, and nutmeg for extra flavor.Butter – can also be substituted with coconut oil (if vegan).Cornstarch or arrowroot powder – to thicken the sauce.Whiskey – I like to add a splash of whiskey for a lovely aroma, but if you don’t want to use alcohol then go for apple juice or water.

Storing Tips

Fridge: Store the leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days.Freezer: Freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months.Reheat: Thaw in the fridge overnight, then reheat in the oven at 350°F or until the apples are warmed through.

Apple corer: I wouldn’t say that this is an essential, but a nice to have tool especially if you grow apples like my Mom does, or you buy lots of apples every year.Sharp knife. This is the knife that I use all the time, a sharp knife is so important and if you want to invest in a new knife then a high-quality chef knife is what I recommend. This one is also currently on sale and well worth the money.Measuring spoons: A kitchen essential that everyone needs. I love these measuring spoons with magnetic snaps and always recommend them.Spatula: I like using silicone spatulas.Mixing bowl: You will use these glass mixing bowls for everything that you make, they’re microwave and dishwasher safe.Baking dish: I love and use this ceramic dish by Staub, comes as a set of 2 and I use them ALL the time.
