When apple season and flatbread pizza have a meet-cute (a charming first encounter, usually used in acting). Apple season is here and if you love a salty/sweet bite AND pizza, this is for you. The best tasting pizza is when the toppings all just work together. This is true of my Grilled Flatbread with Figs, Prosciutto and Arugula and also this onion, apple and bacon flatbread.
How to make flatbread pizza dough
I’m going to show you how to make easy flatbread pizza dough. It is aptly named because it is pizza dough-style bread, but it is has no yeast. As similar recipe to my Yeast Free Pizza Dough. You may think that adding yogurt to the dough is strange, but it is actually how naan bread is made. I also recently used this dough in my Vegetable Pesto Flatbread which uses homemade Sicilian pesto which you must try.
Easy Caramelized Onions
Let’s talk about caramelized onions. They are not the labor of love you may think they are, they do take a little time, but well worth it my opinion. Cooking them low and slow really is the only way to bring out amazing sweetness and flavor. I also have a recipe for Curry Caramelized Onions that would also be delicious on this flatbread too! See below. You may think that adding yogurt to the dough is quite possibly strange, but it is actually how my Easy Naan Bread is made.. I also recently used this dough in my Vegetable Pesto Flatbread which uses homemade Pistachio Pesto which you absolutely must try.
Best Apples to use
Red sweet apples are best for this recipe. The big plus is as they roast, their sweetness intensifies.
Shaping dough for flatbread pizza
When it comes to shaping flatbread, I like to make it rectangle which distinguishes it from regular pizza. I also manipulating the dough into this shape is easier, but you can make whichever you like. If you have made this recipe, please leave a star rating.
