I love getting emails from readers asking for menu ideas when hosting an Indian-themed party. Here’s one I received from Deepa a couple of days ago: Hi Deepa! I have just the recipe that would be perfect for your Super Bowl Party – Dahi Papdi Chaat, also known as Papri Chaat. We’ve been invited to a potluck Super Bowl Party, and the hostess has requested our contributions to fall into the Indian Chaat/Street Food theme. Everything I can think of requires either being made fresh right before serving or will take me the whole day to prep and pack. I need something that’s a crowd-pleaser and also won’t have me spend the whole morning in my kitchen. We already have a ton of hot snacks on the list, so something that can be eaten cold or at room temperature will work great. Any ideas? Help! Many, many thanks, Deepa I think that a delicious lip-smacking Chaat recipe will make an amazing contribution to the potluck. It’s easy to pack and take in parts and is perfect for a party where everyone can just make themselves a plate – however way they like. I’d go the extra mile and assemble a fresh batch at the venue right before serving in a large casserole dish. You can prep some of the ingredients for the Dahi Papdi Chaat – like making both the Green Chutney as well as the Tamarind Chutney or boiling the potatoes, a few days in advance and the yogurt can be whipped up a couple of hours before. The rest can easily be store-bought and assembled just before you’re ready to serve. Have fun and enjoy the Super Bowl!
